The Swansea Cycle Routes has officially launched!
Please mind the map
04 June 2014
A new tube style cycle route map and website are being used to
encourage commuters in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas to
ditch the car in favour of a bike on their journey to work, school
or the shops.
The area boasts a number of high quality cycle routes, which are
suitable for anyone from complete beginners to more advanced
cyclists. Because they are aimed at commuters, the new maps
and website focus on routes which, where possible, take the most
direct and flattest journey and are suitable for all types of
bikes.
Created by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council in
partnership with the City and County of Swansea, the maps show
colour coded routes. Just like the tube map, each interchange is
marked with a black and white circle to make journey planning easy.
Cyclists will see these colours replicated on signs along the cycle
paths so that they can be sure they are going in the right
direction. The website also offers short videos enabling
visitors to see what sections of some routes are like.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Ali Thomas OBE said:
“Replacing some of your car journeys with cycling can help
people to save money, get fitter and do their bit towards
protecting the environment.
“This is a great new initiative aimed at encouraging more people
to use the wonderful cycle network in our area. We are delighted to
have worked with our colleagues in Swansea to produce this useful
and informative map and website.”
